Happy International Women’s Month
Celebrating the Women Who Keep Transportation Rolling
The entire month of March is Women’s History Month. March was first declared International Women’s Month by Presidential proclamation 40 years ago, and in 1987 the U.S. Congress additionally designated March as “Women’s History Month.”
To commemorate the occasion and honor the women who work in our industry and here at Freight Management Systems (FMS), we wanted to profile some of the women on our team. Laura Reed is our Lead Customer Training Specialist for FMS.
Laura is from Medford, Oregon, which is known as the nation’s “transportation broker capital,” so you could say that transportation logistics is in her DNA. Although she jokes that she’s the “newbie” because she only joined FMS in 2018, she’s definitely a veteran of the transportation industry. In fact, she’s been in the business long enough to remember LOADPlus software as a DOS system. This was much different than the new game-changing Web system.
Laura first began working in transportation at a brokerage while still in high school, and that put on her the road to a sustained career.
“I started working part time, doing miscellaneous jobs,” Laura recalls. “I continued working there through college at different positions within the company, and after I graduated from college I became a Certified Transportation Broker.” Two years later she transitioned to another brokerage company, where she ran operations for over 20 years until she moved out of state.
FMS was fortunate to add Laura to the team, and gain her decades of experience and expertise. She specializes in training, assisting new businesses, and making sure all are successful with the LOADPlus software at FMS. She’s the go-to person who can troubleshoot, train, and gather the details needed to support and teach the software. She enjoys being part of a team that is 60 percent women and says that she derives the greatest satisfaction from “Helping new businesses get set up and learn efficient process to help them be successful.”
FMS is glad to have Laura and is proud to recognize her valuable contributions during International Women’s Month.
